SEPTEMBER - JUNE
10:15 AM Sundays -- The United Church of Rowayton, 210 Rowayton Avenue
From the first Sunday after Labor Day, through June our services are held at 10:15 a.m. except for special services such as our Interfaith Thanksgiving Service and Maundy Thursday Services in addition to two services on Christmas Eve and three on Easter Sunday.
Holy Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of every month.
Summer Worship (July-August)
During July and August and Labor Day weekend, the worship service will be at 9:15 am and held in Pinkney Park in Rowayton. Pinkney Park is very close to the Church and borders Five Mile River. This outdoor service, which has become very meaningful to many, is casual. Congregants bring their own lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy the beauty of the Five Mile River and the peaceful setting by the Pinkney gazebo. If it is raining, the 9:15 am service will be held in the UCR Meeting House. Services generally last 30 minutes. Worship leadership is shared by our Pastor John Livingston and Associate Pastor Carla Dietz.
Other Services
Ash Wednesday Worship Service - February 22, 2012 at 8:00pm
During Throughout the years this service has become very meaningful for many of us. It is a time to have our spirits lifted with moments of prayer and quiet reflection upon the scripture lesson and readings shared. We also share Holy Communion and find strength and renewal in the Bread of Life and Cup of Love. We will also offer the imposition of ashes. We encourage you to begin looking toward Jerusalem by worshipping with us on Ash Wednesday.
Lenten Worship Services
During the season of Lent you are invited to early Wednesday morning worship services in the Sanctuary. These services will begin at 6:30am and will be a half hour long. Led by Pastor John Livingston, services will consist of scripture readings, prayers and silent meditation. These services will be held February 29, March 7, 14, 21, 28 and April 4.
Maundy Thursday Worship Service - April 5, 2012 at 8:00pm
This powerful service involves the lighting and extinguishing of candles as a reminder of the darkness that covered the Earth after the passion and crucifixion of Christ. Tenebrae, the Latin word "darkness," is also observed to impress upon our hearts the tragic consequences of humanity's sin and the greatness of the Saviour's service at Calvary. Throughout this service, there will be readings highlighting the Passion Story of our Lord Jesus Christ. You are encourages to join us for this meaningful service.
Good Friday Worship Service - April 6, 2012 at 12:00 Noon
Reflections of the Seven Last Words of Jesus. The Rowayton Methodist Church will be joining us for this special service of dramatic readings.
Easter Sunday Worship Services - April 8, 2012
6:00am Sunrise Service at Bayley Beach followed by community breakfast at the Rowayton Firehouse
9:15am Easter Festival Worship
10:15am Egg Hunt
11:15am Easter Festival Worship
Interfaith Thanksgiving Service - Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 7:30pm
We will have the wonderful opportunity again to gather with West Norwalk Congregational Church, St. Matthew Church and Temple Shalom for this festive Thanksgiving event. The service will begin at 7:30pm and will include particpation by all the clergy and choirs. Join the excitement of this wonderful service at St. Matthew church, 216 Scribner Avenue, Norwalk.
Advent Worship Services
During the season of Advent you are invited to early Wednesday morning worship services in the Sanctuary. These services will begin at 6:30am and will be a half hour long.
