Music Committee
The Music Committee’s responsibility is to ensure a quality musical experience for the members of The United Church of Rowayton. The Committee supports and advocates for the Director of Music and the Director of the Children’s Choir in their efforts, along with the Pastor’s, to enrich worship service with music.
The Committee is comprised of at least six members with a maximum of 12 members. Currently, the Committee consists of two Deacons, the Director of Music, the Director of the Children’s Choir, the Pastor (as an ex-officio member), three members of the Senior Choir, a parent of the Children’s Choir, and two members of the Congregation at large. The Committee meets once a month.
Responsibilities include:
• Make recommendations to the Church for major purchases and upgrades of musical instruments and systems.
• Recruit participants.
• Acknowledge the good work done by all participants.
• Engage in long-range planning.
• Set policy for musical events within the Church.
• Interview potential candidates for musical positions.
• Review the music program annually and coordinate with budget preparation.
Altar Committee
The Altar Committee is responsible for arranging altar flowers and plant care in order to provide an attractive environment for worship. The Committee also provides special holiday decorations at Christmas, Easter and for the harvest festival before Thanksgiving in addition to roses for Baptisms and carnations for Mother’s Day. Funding continues to come from members and friends of the Congregation in the form of memorial contributions. Altar flowers on any given Sunday range from $35 to $50. If you are interested in making a memorial contribution, please contact the Church office.
The committee welcomes anyone who would like to help by arranging Sunday altar flowers or weekly watering of the planter. Generally arrangers take responsibility for one or two months of the Church year (Sept. - June); waterers are on a monthly schedule (shared with other waterers). If a whole month is not possible for an arranger, one or two Sundays is also an option. Anyone interested can contact June Strubinger at 838-6248 or Kris Jenkins at the Church office.
Nominating Committee
The Nominating Committee is responsible for filling all positions of Officers and membership on Boards and Standing Committees. In November, an informational session will be held during a Sunday Fellowship Hour to answer questions about open positions and recruit members of our Family of Faith to fill those positions. In February, at the Annual Meeting, the Nominating Committee will present its proposed slate for the coming year.
Public Relations
The PR Committee is responsible for producing “Sound Opportunities” and the Newsletter, placing ads in local papers for services and publicizing special events from concerts to our Tag Sale.
Memorial Garden
The Memorial Garden Committee is responsible for administering the Memorial Garden funds in order to assure continued care of the garden. In order to do so, they keep a separate financial account to track income from the reservation of markers, as well as special gifts and memorials.
Social
The Social Committee plans and directs social functions and is responsible for the Meeting House kitchen. Under the direction of the Social Committee volunteers are recruited to host our Sunday Fellowship Hour. Annual events that the Committee sponsors from time to time includes: Broadway theater outings, Advent Dinner/Christmas Tree Lighting, Golf Outing/All-Church Picnic, potluck dinners and various other special events.
